The 40X50X8 HMS5 V is a rotary shaft oil seal with a 40mm bore (shaft), 50mm outside diameter (housing) and 8mm width, seal type HMS5, with a Viton (FKM) sealing lip.
Rotary shaft (oil) seals retain lubricant in the housing and exclude dirt, dust and moisture, with a spring-loaded flexible lip running against the shaft to maintain a positive seal as the lip wears. They are fitted into the housing bore with the lip facing the fluid being retained.
